SEPTEMBER 2008: So, could you feel the collective sigh of relief throughout our community this past week as students returned to their classrooms? As much as we all love summer and the sunshine that it's supposed to bring, there is also, at least in our home, an enjoyment or peace that comes with a return to routine and some semblance of normality.

All You Have To Do Is Ask

JUNE 2008: So I have this friend who shared with me that last week he actually drove all the way to Costco just so that he could walk the aisle's there and look at all the Christmas decorations that are on display! Can you believe it; summer isn't even officially over yet! I suppose Christmas isn't that far away, my daughter has already politely shared with me that what she really wants for Christmas this year is an iPod; she's also been quite clear that it is in fact an iPod she wants and not an iShuffle...

I would assume that most of you were able to answer quickly, thinking to yourself, “Yes, I’m married”, or “No, I’m not married,” and maybe there were some of you who thought, “I used to be”, or “I wish I was.” There might even be a few of you out there who quickly thought, “Yes I am, but I wish I wasn’t!”

JUNE 2003: It seems to me that there is a giant question that each of us must answer at one point or another during our lifetimes. It’s a question that I believe we all think about at various points along life’s journey, yet I don’t believe it’s a question that is voiced nearly as often as it should be. The question is this: “If we believe that there is a heaven, how does one get there?”

Some Heavenly Thoughts

JUNE 2003: When my daughter was three years old I made an off-handed comment that when she was 7 our family would go to Disneyland. What I was really saying was that we would go later rather than sooner. What my daughter heard me say was that she would go to Disneyland when she turned seven. She latched onto my words and has spent the better part of half of her life reminding me of them. And very patiently, and with great expectation she waited...
